Lightning Ridge in New South Wales, Australia is the world's only significant commercial source of black opal - the rarest and most valuable form of opal. Premium quality semi-black and crystal opal is also found in this area. Mining commenced in 1902 and it continues today on approximately two hundred distinct opal fields.

from any angle that make this a very attractive opal.

much so that this one very nearly went into our personal collection.
Beautiful full-spectrum crystal. Colors change from one hue to the next
as they shift and roll throughout this magical stone.
Perfect green-to-blue/green ring stone. Faces nicely from any direction, as
the green and blue/green each predominate from different angles.
Brilliant metallic green rolling flash in a dark crystal base. Faces nicely
straight-on but is directional, as is typical with rolling flash.
Nice green picture stone with some subtle blues as well. A perfect opal for
everyday wear. The green is quite flashy against the black base.
